Lawns in Stoney Creek: What We See
Stoney Creek is really two places split by the Niagara Escarpment. The creek the community is named for drops over the Devil's Punchbowl on its way to Lake Ontario, and that same drop shapes how yards behave on either side of it.
The City counts Stoney Creek among its fastest-growing communities, so a big share of the lawns here are new. Lots are finished at builder grade and compacted by heavy equipment, with a thin layer of topsoil over clay. That's where we see sod that greens up for one season and then thins, and water that sits where the final grade was never quite finished. Established yards have the opposite problem: years of wear, patching and settling into hollows.
It's a community with a lot of history, from the June 1813 Battle of Stoney Creek to the Winona Peach Festival. For a lawn, though, what matters is the ground it sits on, and that changes from one street to the next here.

Upper Stoney Creek
On the Mountain, where new developments added more than 7,600 residents between 2016 and 2021. Builder grade and compacted fill over clay are the norm on newer lots.
Lower Stoney Creek
Between the escarpment and the lake, from the streets around Battlefield Park eastward. Older, established lawns, plus yards near the foot of the slope that can take runoff in a hard rain.
Fruitland & Winona
The east end, tender-fruit country after the 1880s and now a planned growth area, so older homes sit beside brand-new streets. Flat lots near the lake drain slowly because there's so little fall.
Lawn Services
Our Services in Stoney Creek
Sod Installation
New homes on the Mountain usually come with builder grade and thin topsoil over clay. We lay fresh-cut Kentucky Bluegrass, rolled tight, for $2.00–$2.50 per sq ft. Prep included: ground clearing and preliminary soil levelling.
Sod installationSod Removal & Lawn Replacement
Lower-city lawns worn thin by decades of use are cut out, hauled away and replaced with fresh sod for $3.00–$3.75 per sq ft, disposal included.
Lawn replacementFrench Drains & Yard Drainage
Below the escarpment, runoff from higher ground can keep one side of a yard soaked. A French drain intercepts it, from $50–$70 per linear foot, and we restore the lawn over the trench.
French drainsGrading & Levelling
Old lawns settle into hollows; new lots up top are sometimes left tipping toward the house. We check the grade on every job, and correcting it adds about $1.00 per sq ft.

With Fruitland–Winona and the Mountain still building out, builders and developers can book a site walk and get a written bid, with WSIB and insurance documents on request.

The Difference
Why Stoney Creek Homeowners Choose Right On Sod
We Check What the Builder Left
Before any sod goes down, we look at the grade, the compaction and the topsoil depth, then show you what needs fixing and what it adds to the quote.
Grade, Drainage and Sod From One Crew
When the problem is water, you don't need three contractors. We regrade, install the drain and lay the sod as one job, under one quote.
Sod That Hasn't Sat Around
Our Kentucky Bluegrass comes from locally grown, premium Ontario sod farms, cut fresh and laid within 24–48 hours, so it roots fast instead of yellowing on a pallet.
Covered, Insured and Guaranteed
WSIB coverage, liability insurance, and our 14-Day Fresh-Cut Sod Guarantee, which covers sod that is weed-free and healthy upon delivery and installation, with proper watering.

Quick Answers
Stoney Creek Sod FAQ
Do you work in both upper and lower Stoney Creek?
Yes. We cover the Mountain subdivisions and the lower city, from the older streets near Battlefield Park out to Fruitland and Winona. The jobs are different (new-build prep up top, more replacements and drainage below), and we quote each one on site.
Do you serve Winona and the east end near Fifty Point?
Yes. Fruitland, Winona and the lakeshore around Fifty Point Conservation Area are inside our service area. Lots near the lake are often flat, so we check how water will drain before we quote any new sod.
Why does my lawn on the Mountain look worse than older lawns in the lower city?
Usually it's what's underneath. New lots on the Mountain are often finished at builder grade, compacted by heavy equipment and topped with a thin layer of soil over clay, so roots can't go deep. Older lawns below the escarpment have had decades to build up soil. A visit will show whether yours needs a regrade, more topsoil or full replacement.
